1. Dirgayuza Setiawan - Head of State
Dirgayuza Setiawan is a young politician, producer, and technologist.
Yuza, as he likes to be called, has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Media Communications and Political Science from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
In 2010, Yuza was elected as the Vice President of the Indonesian Students Association of Australia (PPIA). As the Vice President of PPIA, Yuza started the "Lingkar Ide PPIA" program, an initiative to film excellent research by Indonesian students in Australia. He was also known for leading PPIA’s critique of the Indonesian House of Representatives, which sparked a national conversation on the transparency, accountability, and performance of the Indonesian parliament in the months of April and May 2011.
His most recent accomplishments include: Being selected to work as a parliamentary intern at the Parliament of Victoria (2011), nominated for the prestigious Australian Alumni Awards (2012), elected as a member of the Indonesian Youth Parliament (2012), and trusted as the head of The Great Indonesia Movement Party's School and University Students Department (2012).
Outside of his political career, Yuza pursues his passion in producing content and technology as the co-founder and producer of Idenesia, a social enterprise that collects, creates and promotes Indonesia’s best and brightest ideas using documentary films and the Internet as a medium.
As the Head of Government in the 2013 Y8 delegation from Indonesia, Yuza is passionate about establishing and nurturing lifelong, mutually beneficial relationships with fellow delegates. - @dirgayuza
2. Rainintha Siahaan - Minister of Foreign Affairs
Rainintha Siahaan attended the University of Indonesia, where she won the Most Outstanding Student Award in 2010 at the Faculty of Political & Social Sciences and she graduated with a Dean's List, Cum Laude Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations.
Rain is an Associate of Tusk Advisory Pte Ltd - a leading infrastructure advisory and investment firm with a significant presence in Indonesia, where she is consulting to the Government of Indonesia on the Metropolitan Priority Area projects which includes Indonesia's very first Mass Rapid Transit project. Prior to Joining Tusk, she was with the Danish development agency, DANIDA where she managed low-carbon development projects focusing on green projects financing and Public Private Partnerships for energy conservation projects in Indonesia. - @raspberryx
3. Yosaka Eka Putranta - Minister of Defense
Yosaka is a fourth-year Petroleum Engineering undergraduate at Bandung Institute of Technology. Passionate about the energy industry, he is an intern at the oil company Amerada Hess and has interned at Schlumberger in the past.
He believes that business and leadership insights are essential in the pursuit of his long-term goals, Yosaka is also active in competitions and extracurricular activities outside of his major. He was the Runner-Up of the 2012 Accenture Gives competition, the Second runner-up of the 2012 Danone Trust, and selected by the Japanese company Idemitsu Kosan to compete in the 2012 Asian Job Express in Tokyo. He is also an alumnus of the 2011 McKinsey Young Leaders for Indonesia program.
Apart from his interests in the energy and leadership fields, Yosaka is also engaged in international affairs: He participated in the 2011 Harvard National Model UN in Boston, won the Outstanding Delegate award in the 2012 Nusantara MUN and co-founded Ganesha MUN Club in his university. He also won Best Delegate & Best PositionPaper in both the 2012 Jakarta MUN and the 2012 Indonesia MUN.
Yosaka was once appointed Tournament Director of the 2012 Ganesha Open Debate Championship and been awarded one of the Top Ten Best Speaker award in both The 2011 Indonesian Varsity English Debate and the 2012 NDC-NES Universitas Padjadjaran. With all the debating and leadership experience under his belt, Yosaka is more than ready to represent Indonesia at the upcoming Y8 Summit in London.
4. Margareth Sembiring - Minister of Development
Margareth Sembiring is a Chevening Scholar who recently earned her Master in International Peace and Security from King’s College London, School of Social Sciences and Public Policy, War Studies Department. In 2011, she earned Master in Defense Management from Indonesian Defense University where she was awarded the Best Graduate among her peers in 2009-2010 cohorts.
Margareth is a keen pursuer of knowledge and is unabashed by the diversity of fields to learn. She received her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore where she was also a recipient of Chevron Pacific Indonesia Scholastic award during her undergraduate years. She had worked as a process engineer at STMicroelectronic in France and Singapore for a number of years.
She is very fond of sharing and exchanging ideas. Margareth presented her analysis of Indonesia and Asia-Pacific Security at the Chatham House, home of the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London. She also contributes her writings on the Jakarta Globe and expresses her inquisitive mind through IPAVoices, a Singapore-based citizen journalism platform in which she was given the Best Resident Writer award in 2012.
She taught English Language to university lecturers and Indonesian civil servants bound to pursue their doctoral and master’s degrees abroad at the Lembaga Bahasa Indonesia in the University of Indonesia.
Margareth is deeply passionate about Indonesia, and is looking forward to contributing her knowledge and skills and forming a collaborative work at the 2013 Y8 Summit. She sincerely hopes that the team’s best efforts would truly bring a greater good for Indonesia and the world.
5. Gracia Paramitha - Minister of Environment
Gracia Paramitha is currently a lecturer at London School of Public Relations. She graduated her Master of International Relations from University of Indonesia. A passionate environmentalist, she is the first Indonesian youth to become the Global Youth Advisor to the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP)’s TUNZA Programme. Gracia has been working with the Indonesian Ministry of Environment for almost 2 years, under the Bureau for Planning and International Cooperation. Her work focuses on international negotiations, diplomacy and security issues surrounding the environment. She was part of the Indonesian delegation to the UNFCCC COP 15 climate change conference in 2009 as well as the Rio+20 Earth Summit in 2012. At the local level, she is involved in waste management programs and green spaces development.
Gracia has many accomplishments under her name: she was the regional finalist for the 2013 Hult Prize in Dubai, awarded as “Distinguished Parlimentarian” at the 2012 Asia Pacific Youth Parliament for Water, as well as awarded the SUSI Scholarship by the US Department of State on Global Environmental Issues in 2010. She is also involved in youth issues by helping organize the 2012 International Youth Day 2012 Celebration. 6. Desi Hanara - Minister of Justice
Desi Hanara is currently working with the ASEAN Secretariat as a Technical Officer for the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Foundation, the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and Entities Associated with ASEAN Division. This post provides her with large opportunities to facilitate and to service ASEAN meetings and negotiations, attend numerous international as well as regional human rights and parliamentary fora, and also engage with various key stakeholders in the Asia Pacific region.
Desi graduated from faculty of Sharia and Law, Al-Azhar University and earned several non-degree programs at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University. Throughout her university career, Desi was widely acknowledged as a committed and creative activist. She co-founded and led a number of organizations, won several writing competitions and was awarded as the Best Non-Fiction Writer by the Word Smart Center Cairo. She was frequently invited as a speaker in various events in Egypt and has participated in a number of political conferences conducted by leading Egyptian think-tanks and institutions. She also enhanced her professional skills through some internship programs at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of Indonesia, Indonesian Embassy in Cairo and the Habibie Center.
Taking into account those social works and strong qualification, in 2011, the Australian Government had selected her as one of young Indonesian Muslim leaders and invited her to Australia to engage in intense dialogues with Australian Diplomats at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Politician at the House of Parliament, ABC and SBS journalists, academicians from several Australian leading universities, as well as community, business and religious leaders. - @desihanara
7. Kania Kintani Muksin - Sherpa
Kania Kintani is an analyst for PT. Pertamina (Persero) in the Enterprise Risk Management Division. She graduated Cum Laude from the School of Business and Management at Bandung Institute of Technology in July 2010, where the faculty granted her the title “Best Cum Laude Achiever 2010.” In 2008, she studied abroad in one of Europe’s well-known business schools, the University of St.Gallen in Switzerland.
Throughout her university career, Kania was actively involved in several student organizations; she was Chief of External Affairs for her faculty’s Student Body. She has also participated in national competitions, including being the Runner-Up for National Round of Danone’s Trust Business Challenge.
Apart from her academic engagement, Kania is highly passionate about arts and culture. During her sophomore years, she was committed to promote Indonesian culture to the international stage in the International Folklore Festival at Valle de Mena, Spain. In high school, she was one of the members of the Expand the Sound of Angklung, an initiative to promote Indonesian culture globally, where the team received several honors and awards from various festivals in Europe for their breakthrough in international music. - @Kania_M
